Child birth & work Part 2
April 1991 we had snow early in the month, but it had melted later that day once the temperature warmed up.
April 28th my water broke, up to Swedish American in Rockford we go. (I was too far along in my pregnancy to switch to a local Dr.) In the early morning April 29th, I had a healthy baby boy.
I think it was September of 1991 when I got a job at RR Donnelley in Mendota, IL.
I worked second shift for the longest time, then there were some first shift openings and I was able to transfer. I held a few different positions during my employment with them. I met some nice people while there, some I am still friends with, some are acquaintances.
The work wasn't bad, it was fast paced but it made the day go fast. Every once in awhile we would get a title with a lot of pockets or tip-ons that would kick our asses but we worked as a team to get the job done even if it meant picking up an extra pocket or two. Did I hate tip-ons? Of course! I think we all did! We had to make the best of it to get the job done. We had some good times. Lack of work days were nice when you could get them, the paycheck didn't look nice when you took them🤦.
While working at RR Donnelley I met my future husband, Joe Askins.
Joe was a Missouri transplant (his words) who transferred to the Mendota plant when the Columbia, MO plant closed.
